This is “The Cowboy Code of Ethics” as offered by James Owen
in his book Cowboy Values: Recapturing
What America Once Stood For.
I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of all that Mr. Owen has
to say in his book as it seems a bit of historical cherry-picking to get at the
best and the brightest, but that’s just me. I do think most will find it hard
to quibble with his list of 10.
The
Cowboy Code of Ethics
“Live each day with courage.
Take pride in your work.
Always finish what you start.
Do what has to be done.
Be tough, but fair.
When you make a promise, keep
it.
Ride for the brand.
Talk less and say more.
Remember that some things
aren’t for sale.
Know where to draw the line.”
